Acoustic Guitar Innovations

Fretboard work
The fretboard is where the left had action happens (for me). Here's what's up. This is Bocote wood, the first time I've used that for my fretboard. It is hard and has striking, contrast grain and a smooth, easy-to-work texture.

Always Retooling
I've built a lot of tooling and jigs to build electric guitars. Now I'm having to build and acquire more and modify some of my existing investments to adapt to the new demands of acoustic building. There are a lot of ways to do every step of guitar building and I'm just getting into it and I'm not one to just follow in the footsteps of others, obviously. I look at all that's out there and weigh how well I think they work overall and come to my conclusions. Radiusing the fretb

Bolt on neck block
I'm taking influence from Trevor Gores bolt on neck strategy for my guitars. It makes a ton of sense to me from a construction point of view. It requires strength and precision and is the connection between the body and neck, the two major sub assemblies of the instrument and I've not used this approach before so it makes sense to start here before continuing. Because of the repeatable precision I am fabricating the parts via CNC in two pieces. Here are progress shots:

Neck work begins
I've been building electric guitar necks recently using my CNC router. With the higher heel and 15 degree headstock angle plus the bolt on neck approach I've decided to hand build it mostly. I've been having registration problems with my CNC or possibly software so this seems to be the best approach for just a few instruments. The precision required on the neck is really challenging across many dimensions and there are more than 35 steps in my build checklist so this is a pr

OM Design
Just about any build of any physical thing for me usually starts with a 3d model. I'm very excited to be working on this new direction: A guitar based on the Orchestra Model (OM) style but with some big twists. Modeling and thinking about every little detail is a great way to set things up in my mind. I downloaded a very nice quality PDF design from Electric Herald , my regular go-to for starting points for guitars of traditional designs. 3d model of OM style guitar I'm
